Remember that Canadian Nightcrawlers are living creatures and need to be taken care of! Fortunately, little effort is required to keep them happy. It’s very important to open up the box as soon as you get it and inspect the box.
When receive your bulk order, you should immediately remove the ice pack and then dump out the contents of the box to check on the worms. They should be alive but can be a little strained from the delivery process. If there are any dead worms in the box, you must remove them and discard them as soon as possible.
Secondly, you need to check the dirt. It should be damp but not wet. If it is too wet, you can either add newspaper to absorb moisture, or remove the dirt completely and replace it with fresh, plain dirt or your local garden center variety.
Finally, the worms need to be stored in a cold environment. They prefer temperatures around 40 degrees Fahrenheit. We suggest that you check on the worms daily for the first week to make sure that they are adjusting to their new environment successfully.
